Best Way To Sell A Car With Mechanical Problems – Part 2

Continued from Best Way To Sell A Car With Mechanical Problems – Part 1…

You are on the right track as far as parking the car in an area with a lot of drive-by and foot traffic (I’m assuming that is the case). And its good to put a ‘For Sale’ sign on your car too of course, but here is where you are wasting your time:

  • Condition of Vehicle: What good does it do you to have 100 people call about your ad if you end up blowing them away when you spill the beans about the fact that there are mechanical problems? None, so clearly state in your advertising that the engine is knocking and there are electrical problems…especially if its a lower engine knock. And if it is, then that means you engine needs a major rebuild, and that is very expensive. The electrical issue could be as simple as a new alternator.
  • For Sale Sign: Besides your phone number and whatever details you can stuff in there about the car, you need to put the price of the car on your sign. Why? Because a lot of people won’t even bother calling an ad if they don’t see a price. Put BIG ‘Car For Sale’ signs on all four sides of your vehicle. Put a sheet with many tear-off phone numbers and a brief description so people can take the number with them and call you later.
  • Where To Advertise: A busy street like you are doing is good, but I would also place free ads in Craigslist.org, Kijiji.com and Backpage.com. If you need to sell it fast then place ads in all of those. Take nice photos of the car inside and out and put those in your ads too.
  • eBay: Doing an auction with eBay will give you national coverage, and you might be surprised to see how far some people will be willing to drive to get something they really want.

You wanted to know the best way to sell a car with mechanical problems, right? Well, those are some really good, simple, and effective ways to sell a used car.

Remember this: Make it as easy for potential buyers as possible.
