Bringing Used Cars From Another EU Country To The UK

It is possible to find a used car in another country in the European Union that you want to buy and then bring it back to the UK. But there will be forms to be completed and you will need to spend some more money too. So before you can actually get the car back to the UK there are things that need to be done and some of them are listed below.

There will be a VAT charge that you will have to pay as soon as the car arrives in the UK. You will have to fill in a VAT form 415 for the car if it is less than six months old or has under 3,750 miles on the clock as it will be considered to be a ‘new’ car. Normally though, used cars will go on VAT form 414. The certificate of conformity which will prove that the European safety standards are met by your car will need to be produced too.

The next thing to do is to fill out form V55/5 in order to register the car and there will be a charge associated with this. At registration you will be asked for any relevant paperwork and for proof of VAT payment. You will also be required to have an MOT for the car if it is older than three years. You will also be asked to show identification and to give evidence that you have actually purchased the car.

The paperwork that needs to be completed when you bring in a used car from another country might seem like a lot of work but it is a straightforward process. If it is a car you really want then it is worth the effort. But be warned that if you are considering bringing a car in from a country outside the EU, the paperwork will be quite a bit more.

Whenever you happening to be looking for used cars for sale, it’s always best to carry out a proper research ahead of time. Good research lets you find only the best models available. When your research is done, you could very well end up with a great used peugeot or even a used renault.
