How To Sell A Used Car Or Truck With Free Online Ads
Below is an actual classified ad that answers almost every question a potential buyer may have when looking for a used car.
When writing your ad you will need to describe your automobile in detail. Let’s say you have a Ford truck for example, here is how you will write your ad.
1995 Ford F-150, extended cab, green, 4.9 6cyl, automatic,
air conditioner, power windows, cruise control, leather seats,
95,000 miles, excellent condition, $6500.00,
Call 662-123-1234, Tupelo, MS.
(You don’t have to write your ad with the above format, just write it down in a sentence and put a comma between each feature. I do recommend starting your ad with the year, make and model of your automobile. The websites that you use for posting your ad, will format it.)
Notice how I listed all of the important features. That is what a person looks for when searching the classifieds for a particular automobile.
If you write your ad like this:
1995 Ford truck, 6 cylinder,
automatic, call 662-123-1234
You leave several questions unanswered and in my opinion you have wasted a few dollars for your classified ad. Some questions you will be asked are:
1. How much?
2. What color?
3. What is the condition of the truck?
4. What is the automobile location? What city?
Do not lie about the condition of the car or truck. When someone comes to look at it, they will be upset if the car does not meet their expectation. They have also wasted their time and gas money. Some people will travel a long way to buy a good used automobile.
You can weed out a lot of unnecessary calls by including the price and other important features about your car. When you list the price many people who see it will know right away if it is within their budget and if they need to inquire any further.
If your vehicle has power seats, power windows, leather seats, cruise control, air conditioner, automatic, 5 speed, specialty wheels, 4-wheel drive, or anything that is a plus, you will want to list it in your ad.
A vehicle that has leather seats, indicates that a vehicle is of high quality and includes many luxuries. Don’t list cloth seats in your ad because that is a standard feature. You only need to list features that are a luxury or something that will make your vehicle stand out, such as “Extra Clean” or “Mint Condition”. This lets the buyer know that the automobile has been well cared for.
If it is not an automatic then be sure to list the manual transmission, such as:
Ford F150 XLT, 6 cylinder, 5 speed. Five speed is the number of speeds the transmission has and it indicates to the buyer that it is a manual transmission. Some manual transmissions have 4 speeds and some have 6 speeds. I don’t know about now but years ago some manual transmissions had 3 speeds on the steering column.
Remember, if the car or truck has new tires or a new engine, those are a plus when selling. If it has a new paint job, be sure to list that in your ad.
Bottom line is, you will need to answer all questions with your classified ad and eliminate all unnecessary calls. You only want callers who are interested in buying your car.
