When to Replace Brakes

There are parts to your car that you need to keep aware of. In this age of automated everything on cars, a common thing to happen is the maintenance of the car gets neglected.  Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.

After all, even cheap cars are considered state of the art driving machines like the Hyundai, so it is easy to believe nothing goes wrong.

That is a huge mistake.  There are still parts of your car that need to be maintained and paid attention to.  Most people take care of oil changes and things like that.  Although that is vital for the life of your automobile, most people forget their brakes.  Which is of extreme importance to their life and their family’s lives.

So let’s find out how to know when it is time to change your brakes when they have become unsafe.

The first symptom is when there is grinding or scratching you need to replace your brakes.  Usually this is a sign of the metal plates being gone that are supposed to hold the brake pads and now it rubs against the rotor.  This is a bad sign and you definitely need to replace your brakes immediately.

Second symptom is when your brakes make a loud screeching or a high pitch noise.  This is caused by a condition called glazed.  This happens when a person constantly does excessive braking causing the rotors to get too hot.  The rotors then are burned.

You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.

Vibrations are a third problem.  When your rotors or drums are warped, when you are braking this will cause a vibration.   This happens when too much heat cause them to lose their shape.  If this occurs, you have to replace your rotor.

A final issue to examine is when your brakes are pullling.  When you are braking, what will happen is your vehicle is pulled in one direction.  This happens when your brakes caliper is not getting applied evenly.  This is caused by a fluid leak.  To determine which side the leak is coming from, a brake professional needs to take a look.  You can fix this by removing the air out of the brakes and replacing the caliper.

These are the common problems with brakes.  When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.

When you realize it’s your brakes that stop you from accidents, you never want to neglect this part of your car’s maintenance.
